ESSC Sailing Series
The ESSC sailing year has traditionally been split into the following periods, each one corresponding to a Club Race Series.
Jan/Feb/March; New Year Series
April/May Spring Series
June/July Summer Series
August Results do not contribute to a series
Sept/Oct Autumn Series
Nov/Dec Winter Series
Each 2 month series contains about 18 sailing days. On the basis of 2 races each day this generates 36 results per series. 50% of the results are discarded to arrive at the final classification total.
Each series is scored on the basis of both a General Handicap result (taking into account the PY of the dinghy sailed) and a Personal Handicap result (taking both the PY and personal handicap into account). Personal handicaps are reviewed after each series and may be modified accordingly. A personal handicap is given by the handicapper to new members of the club for their first race on the basis of perceived experience and expertise.
Many helmsmen do not sail regularly but there is no minimum number of results needed to qualify for a series. A non starter is scored ‘number of entries plus 2’ for the race in question.
