Sail Training
RYA Recognised Sail Training
ESSC is an RYA accredited sail training centre, which offers a range of sail training courses for dinghy sailors. Whether you wish to sail on your own or as part of a crew, you should be able to find what you need. Our 5-day Beginners course will teach you rigging, launching and sailing in all directions. It will also include capsize recovery and essential safety knowledge allowing you to sail and make decisions in good conditions. Should you wish to improve your knowledge of dinghy sailing then the Level 3 Seamanship course is for you. This is a 2-day course that is designed to improve confidence in sailing skills and techniques
The Starter
If you are keen to sail on your own the Pico is the obvious choice, however the relatively small size of the Pico leads itself to a maximum crew weight of approx 14st and approx 6 ft tall. If you are larger than these recommended figures, you may wish to come down and have a look at the boat in the flesh. One of the clubs instructors will be able to advise if you are indeed too big for the boat.
Moving on
Regardless of which boat you learn on it is possible to convert to the other type at no charge, basically you just need a capsize and difference brief. The club also possesses a fleet of Laser 1s, and Laser 2000s, RS Visions and a Dart 16 one of which most sailors move onto as their experience grows. Courses are programmed for 6 days, but are usually completed in 5 days (weather dependant). Courses begin on a Tuesday at 1400 hrs and finished at 1800 hrs each day, with a full day on Saturday.
